Regarding LTE e2e IP connection, what is the protocol stack? it is using IP
tunneling (e.g GRE) @ vendor's proprietary protocols? as for e-utran
the protocols stack is PHY-MAC-RLC-PDPC-RRC - and so on. What is inside
those non IP protocols (RLC,PDPC,RRC,etc)?
Here is what they do:
RRC: Radio Resource Control, Admission Control, Security Functions, Measurement Report, System Information, MBMS, NAS Transport, Interworking, Handover & Mobility, PLMN and Cell Selection
PDCP: Transfer of CP and UP Data, IP Header Compression, Encryption on CP and UP, Integrity Protection on CP
RLC: Radio Link Control handles, Data Delivery on TM, UM, AM, Segmentation, Reassembly
Concatenation, Error Correction
MAC: Medium Access Control handles, Mapping of logical to transport channel, Multiplexing Radio Bearer to Transport Block, Error Correction (HARQ), Scheduling on QoS, Formatting and Padding
