News say that NTT DoCoMo is set to launch its LTE network in December of 2010. So a year from now they may acutely get 300mbps download and 75mbps upload speeds. Is this even realistic given that it is a new technology?

Alcatel-Lucent is "extremely satisfied with the current momentum" regarding LTE

The company is already conducting 40 trials of LTE with 23 different operators. Last week Alcatel and Ericsson were selected as key suppliers for AT&T LTE network roll-out in the U.S. "And we may count some more after this week" Philippe Keryer, president of Alcatel's carrier products group, said at the Mobile World Congress.
