The Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan and SoftBank will rescue Willcom. The company will ask help under the Corporate Rehabilitation Law in the early Feb. SoftBank will prefer to apply frequencies issued for Willcom to WCDMA/LTE.

WiMAX is certainly ahead of the game on that but LTE base stations are now in the pre-commercial trials and will be widely deployed. I think there were a dozen of base stations installed in Turin in December 2009.

LTE vendors for Japanese MNOs

For commercial service, docomo procures from Fujitsu, NEC, Ericsson and Panasonic. KDDI au agreed to purchase from Motorola, NEC and Hitachi. SoftBank introduced LTE equipments from Huawei and Ericsson. Confirm those information by yourself.

Willcom's rescue plan

UQ's WiMax BSE reached 5,000

The UQ Communication, a KDDI company installed 5,000 WiMax BSE. This is earlier than installation plan.
The company provides nation wide WiMax services.
